Course Overview
Hi everyone, my name is Jason Alba. Welcome to my course, Building and Managing Your Career Plan. I started my technical career programing an intranet while still in college, and later went on to become an IT Manager, and then General Manager of a software firm. I am passionate about professional development, and have over two dozen professional development courses on Pluralsight. In this course I talk about steps you can take to have the career you want. Specifically we talk about creating a career plan and vision, and then working the plan. We'll talk about how to go from where you are now, to the job you've always wanted. We'll also talk about the role of happiness and satisfaction in your career, and how to handle the times when you don't feel happy or satisfied. The end result to these tactics is that you will feel more in control of the future of your career, you'll have a plan you can start working on right now, and you'll know how to work towards a more fulfilling job and career. By the end of this course, you should feel like you have a better grasp on your career management, and know how to move forward to have the career you deserve. After watching this course, continue your learning by diving into other professional development courses like How to Get Your Next Promotion, Career Management 2. 0, and Leadership: Getting Started. I hope you'll join me on this journey of improving your career with the Building and Managing Your Career Plan course at Pluralsight.

Getting from Here to There: Creating the Path to Your Career Goals
Welcome to the Building and Managing Your Career Plan course from Pluralsight. My name is Jason Alba. I'm the CEO and founder of JibberJobber. com, which is a career management website, and author of multiple career and professional development courses on Pluralsight. This module is titled GETTING FROM HERE TO THERE: CREATING THE PATH TO YOUR CAREER GOALS. Let's talk about what the course looks like. First, we'll talk about this path, or the plan. I want to make sure that we have a solid foundation and really understand the power and purpose of the plan. In the next module, we'll talk about working the plan, and then finally we'll talk about achieving our career goals. The idea is that we can hit the bull's-eye. Ideally, we'll be happy when we hit the bull's-eye. I don't want to be too naive. Sometimes we create goals, set up a plan, work the plan, and ultimately we're not happy. In the last module, we'll address that. Throughout this course, I'll use a fictitious character named Dan to illustrate some of my key points. Dan is at a point in his career where he realizes he wants something more. He's interested in getting promotions. He knows he needs to spend time strategizing his career and working towards those promotions, but he's not sure how to proceed. This course is designed to help him, and you, understand and work a career strategy. If Dan creates and understands his plan, and he works his plan, we hope he'll be successful and happy. But that's not always the case. Maybe the target isn't as great as Dan thought it would be. Join me and my fictitious friend Dan as we walk through the steps to really own the future of his career.

Planning Moves to Each Milestone and Goal
In this module, we take the plan and the vision that we put together in the last module, and we figure out how to execute on that plan and that vision. Before we get started, I want to share an important message with you. Some of you might find this message a little hokey or silly, but the reality is I know there are people who need to hear this message. The message is I give you permission. I give you permission to think a little bigger. I give you permission to think about those big job titles and know that you deserve to have them. Some of you don't need my permission to think about those big job titles and to go for them, but some of you are wondering if you're good enough, if you have what it takes, or even if you deserve to have a position like what we've been talking about. If that's a question in your mind, I want you to know that it's okay to think bigger, and I give you permission to do so. With that, let's jump in.

Realizing Career Happiness Through Self-awareness and Maturity
In this module, we talk about the idea of how to realize career happiness through self-awareness and maturity. Let's get started.
