Pitch & Winner

On Wednesday, August 29, 2018, the top contenders will each have five minutes to pitch their idea to our panel of judges and LIVE attendees in the audience, followed by three minutes of Q&A from the panel.

Judges will deliberate and choose one winner to receive the $50,000 grand prize. We’ll announce the results live at the Create the Future Awards Happy Hour that evening.

Registration & Eligibility
What are the contest eligibility requirements?
  • Contest is open to United States businesses and entities only. Submissions must be made in English.
  • Founders of the applying startup must retain some portion of ownership in the company to be eligible to participate.
  • Entrants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Entrants must be able to demonstrate the product/service on stage.
  • Entrants can only submit once. Multiple submissions will not be eligible to participate.
When is the application deadline?
Submissions must be entered by August 1, 2018, 11:59 p.m. MST (finalists will be chosen by August 8, 2018).
How will I know if I have been selected to participate?
After a thorough review of all candidates, on August 8, 2018 we’ll announce the finalists selected to present at Pluralsight LIVE.
How many products/services can I submit?
Each entrant will be allowed to submit only one product/service. Entrants who enter more than one product/service will not be eligible to participate.
How are the entries screened?
A committee of technology experts will screen each application to ensure the applications meet all requirements and review each entry to decide which products or services are the most innovative.
Should my company create a video about our product or service for the online application process?
We encourage you to include a direct link to a video that could further illuminate your product or service for initial submission, but the absence of a video submission will not exclude you from eligibility. If you choose to submit a video, we suggest you cover: the company name and introduction of key team members, what makes your team a winning team, the product/service being pitched and the problem it solves or capability it provides, target audience or customers, market potential, description of competitive landscape, and differentiators of your product/service among other available solutions. We will accept the following video file formats: MP4, MOV, WMV, AVI, and FLV.
Will I receive a registration to Pluralsight LIVE if I am selected?
Yes, participating finalists will receive two (2) complimentary registrations for Pluralsight LIVE 2018, as well as a dedicated space in our Pluralsight LIVE Exchange to showcase their products/services, travel and hotel expenses paid, and a full year of access to learning on Pluralsight.
When will finalists receive notification?
Finalists will be notified by August 8, 2018.
Presentation & Winners
How long will my presentation be at the Create The Future Awards?
If accepted, each product or service will receive five minutes to present their idea and three minutes of Q&A with a panel of judges.
During the presentation to the Judges, how many people can be on stage presenting?
Each participating entrant will be allowed one representative to present to the judges and one additional person to control the presentation. Pluralsight will not provide staff to support you with your stage presentation.
What are the key judging criteria when reviewing entrants?
The evaluation of each application is based on many factors, but the following criteria are the most important:
  • Creativity/originality (25%)
  • Functionality (25%)
  • Potential and addressable market (25%)
  • Management team (25%)
Who are the Create The Future Awards Judges?
Each of our judges is an industry expert in venture capitalism or technology and will not be the same as those who are involved in the screening process.
What about my intellectual property?

You, the applicant, are solely responsible for protecting your intellectual property rights (patents, trademarks, copyright, trade secrets, etc.) in your idea. If you think you have intellectual property rights or you might want to patent your idea someday, it is strongly recommended that you consult an attorney before disclosing this information in your application.

Applicants are expected to submit a compelling presentation without disclosing critical intellectual property. By submitting an application, you acknowledge that applying for the Create the Future Awards could result in disclosure of your intellectual property if such information is included in your application.

Pluralsight is not in a position to protect or advise you on your intellectual property rights and does not take any responsibility for doing so. Additionally, Pluralsight does not require non-disclosure agreements or other confidentiality obligations from anyone involved in the Create the Future Awards process. However, Pluralsight retains the right to promote semifinalist and finalist business names, logos and products/services in conjunction with the Create the Future Awards.

Can I talk about fundraising in my presentation?

Participating entrants should not mention anything about their fundraising activities and plans in their presentations and presentation materials. Examples include: whether the company is fundraising, how much a company has raised, financial projections, and terms of offering. Please reserve all conversations about fundraising to private one-on-one meetings with known accredited investors.

Due to the new rules under the JOBS Act regarding general solicitation, Pluralsight requires that participating companies rely upon SEC Rule 506(b) (i.e., not use the event’s general solicitation to offer or sell securities). Pluralsight strongly encourages you to become familiar with the new rules under the JOBS Act and to consult experienced legal counsel about applicable securities regulations. By participating in the Create the Future Awards event, you agree that Pluralsight does not give investment legal advice and that you are responsible for ensuring your compliance with applicable securities laws.

What prizes will be awarded?

The top five participating finalists will receive two (2) complimentary registrations for Pluralsight LIVE 2018, as well as a dedicated space in our Pluralsight LIVE Exchange to showcase their products/services ($20,000 value), travel and hotel expenses paid, and a full year of access for two to the Pluralsight platform.

Travel and hotel expenses include airfare to/from SLC International Airport and ground transportation between SLC International Airport and Grand America Hotel (Pluralsight LIVE event location) for two individuals. Hotel accommodations include basic room fees for two individuals at Grand America Hotel. Meals are provided for all attendees at Pluralsight LIVE.

Most importantly, finalists will receive exposure to the Pluralsight LIVE audience looking out for the latest in cutting-edge technology.

The grand prize award winner will receive $50,000. The prize money will be awarded to business entities, not individuals, and does not constitute an investment in the company.

Who can attend the Create The Future Awards session?
The Create the Future Awards session is open to all Pluralsight LIVE attendees.
